Shafiq Morton is an award-winning Cape Town photojournalist and author of the acclaimed Notebooks from Makkah & Madinah, a historical travelogue of the Holy Pilgrimage.

 He has covered the anti-apartheid struggle, the release of Nelson Mandela and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as well as conflict, famine and flood in places such as Lebanon, Niger, Libya, Pakistan, Palestine and Somalia.

 In 2008 he was awarded the South African Vodacom Journalist of the Year award in the community category, and in 2009, 2010 and 2011 was one of the South Africans voted amongst the 500 most influential Muslims in the world by the Royal Islamic Strategic Centre in Jordan.
