The ships that set sail from around the world to break the heavy blockade and humanitarian crisis imposed on Gaza represent one of the most remarkable acts of civil resistance in modern history. Beginning in 2008 and continuing through 2025, these journeys were not only humanitarian missions but also a global struggle for justice, freedom, and human dignity.
Prepared by the Digital Memory Center, this report documents, in chronological order, the freedom flotillas that set out for Gaza between 2008 and 2025. From the Mavi Marmara to the Vicdan ship, from women’s boats to international solidarity flotillas, each mission is recorded as a concrete testimony of history. The report highlights the motivations behind these voyages, the attacks they faced, the violations of international law, and—most importantly—the bridges of solidarity built with the people of Gaza.
With this chronological memory study, our aim is to make visible a legacy of resistance and solidarity that some have tried to erase, while also providing a reference point for future initiatives. The story of these flotillas, which proclaimed to the world that Gaza is not alone, will continue to live on in our memory and our conscience.
